Altered State, A Cannabis exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California
The Oakland Museum of California is currently exhibiting Altered State, a Cannabis focused exhibit that explores every angle of the provocative plant.
The experience is divided into sections that create a contrast as stark as the disparate impact of a failed war on drugs. Check out the drug policy section and see sweeping visual data sets that read as a story through time. Compare arrest rates among ethnicities in different California cities. Then hold that thought and walk over to the "cash crop" Cannabis industry sections. Compare the demographic data.
At Altered States you can watch anti-drug PSA's and see how they change over time, and how they don't. You can participate in experiments of sharing anonymous stories, or contribute to a group sketch on the board labeled "draw here if you are high". Give yourself some time to explore the space, and to make a stop in the gift shop on the way out!
